Mexico is the most popular destination for North Americans in the world.

Sun. Sand. Vibes. Repeat.

If you’re craving turquoise waters, golden hour glows, and toes-in-the-sand peace—Mexico delivers. With coastlines on both the Pacific and Caribbean, there’s no shortage of beach perfection. Here are my top 5 beach spots in Mexico that are totally worth the trip (and the IG stories):

“Rent a paddleboard or kayak for views that will leave you speechless.”

  1. Tulum – Quintana Roo

Boho dreams + crystal blue water.

Tulum is where jungle meets the sea. The beach is wide and pristine, lined with boutique hotels, beach clubs, and eco-chic everything. Think sunrise yoga, raw coconut sips, and endless photo ops under swaying palms. Whether you’re vibing in a beach cabana or exploring the Mayan ruins nearby—it’s all magic.

🧘‍♀️ Must do: Grab a mezcal margarita at a beach club like Papaya Playa Project and catch sunset.

  1. Playa Balandra – La Paz, Baja California Sur

A literal dreamscape.

This one is unreal. Calm, shallow waters that stretch out forever in every shade of blue. It’s more like a lagoon than an ocean beach—no waves, just total peace. Balandra is a protected area, so expect a natural, untouched vibe with limited daily access.

🌊 Pro tip: Rent a paddleboard or kayak for views that will leave you speechless.

  1. Sayulita – Nayarit

Colorful, casual, surf town energy.

Sayulita is where you go when you want sunshine with a side of tacos, surfboards, and street art. The beach is lively, full of friendly locals and visitors from all over. Perfect for surfing (or trying to surf), shopping artisan finds, and sipping micheladas on the sand.

🏄 Don’t miss: Catch a beginner surf lesson then hit up the beach bars for live music.

  1. Isla Holbox – Quintana Roo

No cars. No chaos. Just peace.

Holbox is a whole vibe—quiet, dreamy, and completely unplugged. The beaches are wide and practically empty, with shallow waters perfect for floating or just doing nothing. Sunsets here hit different. The kind of place you go to reconnect—with nature and with yourself.

🚲 Must experience: Rent a bike and ride the beach road, then float through the bioluminescent water at night.

  1. Playa Carrizalillo – Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca

Hidden cove, local magic.

This is one of Puerto Escondido’s most stunning beaches. Nestled in a crescent-shaped bay, Playa Carrizalillo is reached by descending a dramatic staircase—worth every step. It’s calm enough for beginner surfers, perfect for a swim, and has that golden, end-of-the-world feeling.

🌅 Must do: Sip fresh coconuts after a surf sesh and watch the sun dip behind the cliffs.

🌴 Which One’s Calling You?

Whether you want slow, sleepy days or full-on beach adventure, Mexico’s got a coast for every kind of traveler. Drop your fave in the comments or tell me which one you’re planning to visit next!
